Two's Special
|
We understand that at this stage each child needs
a lot of individual attention
along with group activities. Our caregivers help to develop trust and
emotional security so that each child can explore the environment
according to his or her developmental level. Most of the time our
children are having a fun and
learning experience here.

We emphasize on helping
children gain the social competence, skills and confidence necessary to be
prepared to succeed in their present environment through a balanced daily program of
child-initiated and adult-directed activities, including individual and
small group activities.
Little bit about our Curriculum
At Barrington we use a combination of Pinnacle curriculum and Creative curriculum
for our Two year olds to provide them with a balanced program.
We strive to enable children
to independently use toilet facilities when it is developmentally
appropriate and when efforts to encourage
toilet training are supported by the parents. Teachers are
encouraged to work with toilet training in a positive manner.
We provide for the
development of each child’s cognitive
and language skills by supporting their learning, using
various strategies including experimentation, observation, play and
exploration. Daily opportunities are provided for the children to explore
various art media, sing and dance,
participate in creative movement and learn about a variety
of topics.
We promote interaction and
language use among children and between children and adults through a
variety of hands-on, concrete experiences, which lays the foundation for
eventual development of literacy
and numeracy skills. The emphasis
is not on teaching alphabet or number skills at this level. To lay the
foundation for literacy development, the children listen to simple stories, participate in
engaging rhymes and songs, join in conversations
and participate in similar activities. They work with sand, water, blocks
and other materials for numeracy skill
development.
We promote each child’s
physical development by providing sufficient time, indoor and outdoor
space, equipment, materials and adult guidance for active play and
movement. Our teachers conduct a number of activities for the development
of gross skills, which are referred to as “Small Muscle” or
“Manipulative”, and fine skills, which are typically labeled
“Large Muscle” or “Group Games”. We provide
opportunities for each child to explore a variety of sensory and motor experiences
with support and stimulation from teachers and family members.
We encourage development, which enhances each
child’s strengths by:
(A) Building trust.
(B) Fostering independence.
(C) Encouraging self-control
by setting clear, consistent limits, and having realistic
expectations.
(D) Encouraging respect
for the feelings and rights of others and
(E) Supporting and respecting the home
language, culture, and family composition of each
child in ways that support the
child’s health and well-being.
We provide an appropriate
environment and guidance for the participation of children with special
needs.
